πŸ”’ Local transcription keeps audio entirely on your device. Pro users may optionally choose cloud transcription, which temporarily sends audio to Groq or Soniox for processing. Clipsule does not retain or share your audio after processing.

1. Overview

Clipsule ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy describes how we handle information when you use the Clipsule iOS application ("App").

Clipsule offers Local Processing and Cloud Processing. Local Processing is available to Free and Pro users and runs transcription on your device using a local Whisper model. Cloud Processing is an optional Pro feature that sends audio through our backend to a cloud transcription provider. The App identifies the selected processing method before transcription begins.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Local Processing (Free and Pro)

When you select Local Processing, audio transcription is performed entirely on your device using a local Whisper model. Your audio is not uploaded to Clipsule, Groq, Soniox, or any other transcription provider. Locally generated transcripts and summaries remain on your device unless you separately use a cloud-powered feature.

2.2 Cloud Processing (Optional Pro Feature)

When a Pro user selects Cloud Processing, the following data is processed only as needed to provide the requested feature:

  • Audio content: Audio extracted from your selected file or linked video is sent over an encrypted connection through our backend to Groq or Soniox for transcription. It is used only to complete your request and is not retained by Clipsule after processing.
  • Transcript text: The resulting transcript may be sent to our AI summarization service to generate a summary. Clipsule does not retain the transcript on its servers after processing.
  • Device token: An anonymous UUID generated on your first app launch and stored in your device Keychain. This token is used solely for rate limiting (to prevent abuse). It is not linked to your identity, name, email, or any personal information.
  • URL metadata: If you paste a link (YouTube, TikTok, etc.), the URL is sent to our backend to fetch and extract audio. We do not log or store URLs after processing.

Clipsule does not sell cloud-processed audio or transcripts, share them for advertising, or use them to train AI models. Groq and Soniox receive this content solely as service providers performing transcription on our behalf.

2.3 Subscriptions and In-App Purchases

Purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive or store your payment card details. We use RevenueCat to manage Pro subscription access and may process an anonymous app user identifier, device and app information, App Store receipt data, product identifiers, purchase dates, expiration dates, renewal status, and related transaction metadata. RevenueCat does not receive your audio, transcripts, or summaries.

2.4 Analytics & Crash Reporting

We do not use third-party analytics SDKs (e.g. Firebase, Mixpanel, Amplitude). We may collect anonymized, aggregated crash logs via Apple's built-in crash reporting system (with your permission at iOS system level) to improve app stability.

3. How We Use Information

We use the information collected solely to:

  • Provide and improve the Clipsule service
  • Transcribe audio and generate AI summaries when you choose cloud processing
  • Verify purchases and provide access to Pro features
  • Enforce fair-use rate limits (via anonymous device token)
  • Diagnose and fix technical issues

We do not use your content to train AI models. We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties for marketing purposes.

4. Data Retention

  • Locally processed audio: Never uploaded by Clipsule.
  • Cloud-processed audio: Processed temporarily and removed from Clipsule-controlled systems after transcription completes. We do not keep a copy.
  • Cloud-processed transcript data: Processed temporarily and removed from Clipsule-controlled systems after the requested cloud processing completes.
  • Summaries and transcripts: Stored locally on your device in CoreData. Never uploaded to our servers. You can delete them at any time from the History screen.
  • Rate limit counters: Anonymous device token + daily request count stored in our backend (Cloudflare KV). Counter resets at midnight UTC. We do not log timestamps or content of individual requests.
  • Subscription records: Apple and RevenueCat retain purchase and subscription information as needed to process purchases, maintain entitlements, prevent fraud, and meet legal obligations under their respective policies.

5. Third-Party Services

Depending on the features you choose, Clipsule uses the following service providers:

  • Groq β€” One of the providers used for optional Pro cloud transcription. Audio is sent only when you select cloud processing and is handled under Groq's Privacy Policy and applicable service terms.
  • Soniox β€” One of the providers used for optional Pro cloud transcription. Audio is sent only when you select cloud processing. Soniox states that audio and transcripts are not retained unless storage is explicitly requested; Clipsule does not request such storage. See Soniox's Security and Privacy documentation.
  • Anthropic Claude API β€” Used to generate text summaries from transcripts. Data is processed per Anthropic's Privacy Policy. We use API settings that prevent content from being used for model training.
  • OpenAI TTS API β€” Used to generate natural-sounding speech from summary text. Data is processed per OpenAI's Privacy Policy.
  • Cloudflare β€” Our backend infrastructure runs on Cloudflare Workers. Cloudflare may process request metadata per their Privacy Policy.
  • Apple App Store β€” Processes in-app purchases, billing, refunds, and subscription management under Apple's Privacy Policy.
  • RevenueCat β€” Validates App Store transactions and manages Pro subscription entitlements. RevenueCat processes purchase and technical metadata, but not your audio, transcripts, or summaries. See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.

When you use Local Processing, Groq and Soniox are not used and your audio is not transmitted for transcription. Apple and RevenueCat may still process subscription information if you purchase or manage Pro.

6. Children's Privacy

Clipsule is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

7. Your Rights

Clipsule does not require an account or maintain a profile containing your audio history. All your summaries and transcripts are stored locally on your device and can be deleted at any time from within the app (History screen β†’ swipe to delete).

Subscription records are managed by Apple and RevenueCat. You can manage or cancel your subscription from your Apple ID subscription settings. For privacy requests concerning data controlled by Clipsule, contact us using the details below.

To remove the anonymous device token and reset your rate limit counter, you can delete and reinstall the app.

8. Security

We take security seriously. Our backend uses HTTPS for all communications, certificate pinning on the iOS client, and API keys are never stored in the app binary. Anonymous device tokens are stored in the iOS Keychain (encrypted).

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top. For significant changes, we will notify users via an in-app notice. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
